This year was full of powerful and memorable design trends. Mixed design styles, vintage decorating, the use of curved furniture, and dark and rich color schemes were all hot in 2024. Of course, the list doesn’t end there—throughout the year we covered dozens of both new and classic decorating trends.
To inspire your next home refresh, we asked our BHG editors to share their favorite home design trend of the year, and we think you’ll love their answers. See what our editors have been loving and learn how you can incorporate these styles and themes into your own home.
The Home Decor Trends That Are In or Out for 2024

Clustering
“I love stuff! So displaying all my favorite treasures in different vignettes, or ‘clusters’ is lots of fun. Achieving the clustering look is simple, and you probably already have everything you need at home. All you need is a few objects, like perfume bottles, photo strips, ribbons, and matchbooks. Then, spend a few moments arranging them. As my favorite cluster queen (@girlswhocluster on IG) says: Think of it as creating a movie set of your own life. It’s a fun way to add whimsy and personality to your decor. I love adding little surprises throughout my home this way—guests love it too!”

Organic Modern and Japandi Style
“Ceramics that look handmade, textural elements, the warmth of wood, a bit of whimsy through natural motifs, and actual plants just resonate with me. This trend will continue to become a classic go-to as it brings nature, form, and function full circle.”

Color Drenching
“While certainly not new, monochromatic rooms splashed in a single shade caught on in a big way in 2024. I’m grateful we’re moving toward self-expression and happy colors in interior design rather than the sea of beige and gray that was so prominent throughout the past decades. To prevent the look from falling flat, remember to use variations of your color; combine multiple different values—some lighter, some darker—of the main color paired with plenty of textures.”

Bookshelf Wealth
“As an avid reader and book collector, the bookshelf wealth trend immediately caught my eye. I love how even though it’s a design trend, it emphasizes slowly curating a collection of books and art you love, not rushing to purchase any item to achieve the look. To embrace the bookshelf wealth lifestyle (not just the look), purchase books and decor intentionally, not just to fill space. In this case, the adage still rings true—good things come to those who wait.”

Showcasing Heirlooms
“The holidays are a nostalgic time to display beloved hand-me-downs and collections, but the trend is living beyond the holidays. I love seeing unique ways people incorporate antiques, thrifts, or grandma’s this-or-that into their year-round decorating. The layered and collected effect brings originality and a story.”

Quiet Luxury
“The quiet luxury movement has been one of my favorite trends in both home and fashion this year. I have a very relaxed decorating style, but I also value high-quality pieces. This decorating style is all about doing more with less. To get the look in your own space, embrace a mostly neutral color palette and keep clutter to a minimum. (Decorative baskets and bins behind glass-front cabinet doors are my go-to for sophisticated clutter control!) You’ll also want to remember that more is not better: I try to spend my budget on a small number of investment pieces, rather than a larger collection of furniture or decor I’ll have to replace in a few years.”

Bold Wallpaper
“Wallpaper has been given a whole new look in recent years, and 2024 was no exception. Wallpaper with bold colors and patterns offers a complete transformation to an otherwise bland space. With more affordable and peel-and-stick versions available today, wallpapering an entire room has never been easier. I recently wallpapered my bathroom with a dark and moody pattern and it has given new life to this once-outdated part of my home. Make the space appear more cohesive by picking out a color in the wallpaper and painting the room’s trim in the same shade.”
